Goodbye, Intel

My brief stint with Prescott is over. I no longer own an Intel-based system. I yanked the base system components out of my case (mobo, CPU, RAM) and replaced them with something that I've been more comfortable with but have strayed from: AMD stuff. My motherboard is now an Asus A8N-SLI, my CPU is an Athlon 64 3500+, and my RAM is ... well, it's still a gig of HyperX, but it's DDR (not DDR2) now.

I haven't done any real testing to see how this config performs against the P4 one. I mean, all I've really done with it is install drivers, download updates, and load apps. It's too early to tell how it fares in games, but that is coming. I might even play some HL2DM tonight, just to test the system out. Yeah, that's it ... just to test it ...

I found that ATI's Catalyst 5.3 drivers don't like two components on my X800 Pro: the Rage Theater chip, and some "Specialized Codec". So, I'm using the good ol' 4.11 version. Kind of surprising that last November's version supports those components but this month's, which are a few days old as of this typing, don't.

I'm off to continue with my app loading.
