Inspection complete
Thursday, 26 April, 2007, 00:14
The home inspection was today. Left work at 3:00, got to the house at 3:30, and the home inspector was nearly done already. Good thing too, it would have been a pain in the butt to wait for that dude to finish up in the attic.

So ... we found a couple of minor things, but nothing earth-shattering. The furnace's heat exchanger needs to be inspected, and a couple of little panels of glass need to be replaced, but other than that it's golden. That is always good news.

Next thing to do is to get the financials in order, and we're well on our way to a May 31st closing date. I'll probably move in there pretty quickly to get everything up and running by the time the bridal shower hits, but I don't expect Julie to move in until after the wedding.

Good times.

I has house.

...so we made an offer yesterday. Negotiations went back and forth yesterday and today. This afternoon we told our agent our final offer, basically stating that if the seller did not accept this offer, we'd walk. In the end, we're paying nearly $62,000 below what the sellers originally asked.

So ... I HAS HOUSE, LOLZ

I has guitar

Grabbed a BC Rich Mockingbird. It looks totally hawt. It sounds bloody sweet too. I should probably post pictures of it. It's very shiny.

House hunting update ... the owners of the house Julie and I will probably make an offer on just dropped the asking price by about $11,000. I'll still have to lowball the price like a maniac, but I'm willing to take the chance. It's a nice neighborhood, it has good schools, and the property taxes are relatively low compared to the other listings we're looking at.

One of the other listings already happens to be within our price range, the property tax is less than the one we're going to make an offer on, and we like it ... the problem is that, due to new construction in the area, the property tax will likely skyrocket. The government already takes enough of my paycheck, and I don't want to give them more than that.

So ... I want to move into whatever place I end up with by the end of May. I may have to push that to the end of June, but as long as I can go home to my own house after the wedding I'll be fine :)

Step back, breathe ...

So ... it's time to look beyond the MLS listings. We haven't been looking at any "by owner" sales, so we've decided to give that a chance. That, and we now have a bit more time to look, as I'm not going to Sydney yet. As long as we have the house before Father's Day, we're fine. Less pressure ... always good.

Some asshole put a gigantic dent in my front passenger door. Very pissed about that ... other than that, no real news.
