Bandwidth issues
Tuesday, 31 May, 2005, 22:22 -
According to the guy who runs the server this website is hosted on, 6Gb of bandwidth isn't enough for the hosting service. That's why it's going quite slow now. It was going pretty fast last night, though, so I don't know what's up. I was actually going to downgrade the script last night but that ain't gonna happen until things speed up. Believe me ... it's slow.

UPDATE: Uploading to the server is no problem ... downloading from it is another story. Downgrading to 0.4.2 didn't solve anything, so I'm going to switch it to 0.4.3 and see what's up.

UPDATE 2: Screw that downgrading BS, I upgraded to 0.4.4d, the latest development release. It appears that the tag thing is fixed, which makes me quite happy. Now to get rid of the two "Login" boxes and enable emoticons ...

EMOTICON TEST: :D     :(   :o  :) :tard: :p ;) :wtf:

UPDATE 3: Looks like the good stuff works now :D Changed the alternate text on the emoticons as well ... the script was belching out the variable name instead of the appropriate alternate text :p

UPDATE 4: There we go ... the second Login link is now gone. Hooray for me!

Memorial Day Shenanigans
Monday, 30 May, 2005, 06:13 -
I think I'll be biking with Julie on some trails near Argonne National Labs today. We're gonna make us some sandwiches, toss 'em in a backpack, and hit them trails hardcore. Pictures may come ... which reminds me, I have to redo the Gallery so it fits with this blog script.

What, why?

When I say the store closes at 4, that doesn't mean I'll stay afterwards if you bring your computer in for service at 3:59. I'll take down your information and what's wrong with the system (or what you want to upgrade), but I won't do any work because it's time to go. I have other things to do ... I don't want to sit here and work on computers all the damn time. Give me a freakin' break here.

I have a chance to go see a movie tonight, but I don't believe it'll be Star Wars. They'd probably want to cut out my tongue to make sure I don't tell anyone what happens in the movie, as that may be copyright infringement.

Hey, I have an idea!

Let's shut down Google, Yahoo, Altavista, Ask Jeeves, Dogpile, and whatever other search engines we can find! You can look for copyrighted material on those! BAD BAD EVIL SEARCH ENGINES, NO COOKIES FOR YUO!

Seriously now, this copyright bullcrap is driving me nuts. I realize that people work hard on these movies, I really do ... but have you seen what's coming out of Hollywood lately? A new Herbie movie, Dukes of Hazzard, a remake of War of the Worlds (among others) ... what, are they out of ideas? Couple that with perpetually rising movie ticket prices, and you have a recipe for disaster. I, for one, am not about to walk into a theater and pay $12 to see a crappy movie (and $20 for popcorn and drinks) when I can wait a few months and see it for $3 (and maybe $2.00 for popcorn and drinks) instead. There are obvious exceptions ... I tend to go see Pixar movies because they're pretty damn cool.

And if you're gonna pirate something, for the love of God don't do it over BitTorrent. Use BitTorrent to download Linux distributions, Microsoft OS service packs, or something of that nature.

I'm probably gonna downgrade this site to version 0.4.2 of this script sometime soon, so if everything goes wonky, it's due to that.
