Late Update

...or is it early?

Anyway, it's August. I'm a sad panda ... school starts soon, and I've only registered for one class. I still haven't managed to make Big Things(TM) happen. Feh.

Visited my older sister and my nephews today with Julie. I believe we had a good ol' time, considering ... though I caught my eldest nephew shedding a tear or two here and there. No problem, it's okay to cry.

I'm a bit sick of the current Naruto situation. All this fanservice ... it's beginning to get as annoying as DBZ :p These latest enemies are pretty dumb.

I have a cleaning tomorrow ... by this I mean there will be a woman using various implements of mass destruction in my mouth (i.e. a dental hygeninst cleaning my teeth). I hate going to the dentist, but hey, what can I do? It's preventive maintenance, just like when I take the Solara to the Toyota dealer for service intervals. No big deal, right? At least the Toyota dealer doesn't nag me to floss, though :p

Dumpster diving r00lz
Wednesday, 27 July, 2005, 03:17 -
...but only if you find something of value, and only if you're not doing it to chase after a missing part

Case in point: we happened to be missing one Pentium 4 530J (3.0GHz, 1MB L2) processor out of the 61 we had ordered. We had paperwork that showed the processor came in, but none showing that it left. So, we started tearing up the shop trying to find it. No luck.

Then I remembered how we threw the boxes out. See, the Pentium 4 processors we ordered came in boxes of 5. That is, there were 5 individually boxed Pentium 4 processors in one larger box. We removed the CPUs, heatsinks, and license/warranty documentation from their individual boxes, installed them in their motherboards, and placed the plastic packaging back into the individual boxes. So, in the end, we had a large box containing what looked like five Pentium 4 processors; the large box contained only the packaging for the five CPUs, as the processors themselves sat comfortably in their respective motherboards.

So, I thought that someone may have inadvertantly left a CPU inside one of the Pentium 4 boxes that was thrown out. When things get thrown out, they go to the dumpster. Logical progression, right? The only way to find out what is in the dumpster is to look. Well, if you can't see something because it is occluded by a box or something like that, the logical thing to do is to move the occlusion out of the way ... this required entering said dumpster. Hence, dumpster diving.

A couple of things made this venture crappy. First of all, the garbage truck came to empty the dumpster last Wednesday. This meant that the packaging from last Friday and Saturday's lunches sat in the dumpster ... meaning some 3- and 4-day old BBQ sauce (and sweet-and-sour sauce) was stankin' up the joint. Furthermore, it was raining. The icing on the cake was the fact that the CPU was not present in the dumpster. We have accounted for all but that one lousy processor.

Note to self: if a company is listed on, one red flag is present. If many employees of that company post rebuttals, that means they are actively searching for their company on that site, which probably means they know their company is somehow screwing the public. Just because a company is under the Red Umbrella doesn't mean they are reputable. That is all.

A quick update
Monday, 25 July, 2005, 13:29
...for clarification, the last entry I made (25 July) was referring to the whole Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas thing, and how it got pulled from the shelves and re-rated as AO for the "hidden sex games." You can kill without any modifications, but ... you know the rest of the story.

It was rediculously hot yesterday. The temperature was something like 105, with a heat index of 116 or 117. When I got home around midnight, it was still 88 outside with a heat index of 96. IT WAS FREAKIN' MIDNIGHT and it was hotter than it was all week
