The Machine

Recently, I upgraded my home PC from a Core 2 Duo E6850/P43 machine to a Core i5-2500K/Z68 beast. This thing is quick. That Microsoft commercial in which they build a store in the lady's house seems much more realistic now.

I never really understood the concept that a house is perpetually under construction until I bought one myself. After all, how is it that a house, a building that has been completed, that has been signed off and left by the crew that assembled it, can still be under construction?

Well, now I know. Granted, I'm not doing everything myself. Given my limited knowledge there's really no way I could do it myself; I have friends and family to help me.

By the end of my laundry list of projects, though, I will have an impenetrable fortress that will shield me from all but the most severe zombie apocalypse. We're talking an alligator-filled moat, high-powered laser turrets mounted on the roof ... okay, maybe not. But it'll at least be more liveable.

I had an idea.

So, as you may recall from my last post I snagged a bunch of domain names. One of them wasn't new; I bought it last year for a project that didn't pan out. I got a stupid idea this morning, and let's just say I think it just might work. I have zero art skills, though, but I'm sure that won't matter because I've seen some pretty bad stuff hit it big on teh intarwebs. Not going to reveal much, though, as it's still in its infancy.

Speaking of infancy, Mario's discovering that his legs can be used for more than kicking me in the stomach. He's been able to stand up for a while, but now he's turning away from the object he uses to stand up, and I've caught him standing without support a few times. It's only a matter of time before he starts walking now. He has two teeth and is working on growing two more right now, and he's very angry about it. He also likes shaking his head and is quite anti-nodding.

Anyway ... need to redevelop one of the sites I was working on. That will take longer than I thought, unfortunately, because I have to start it from scratch. Once that's done I might move this site too.

More Domains

So ... I may have mentioned this earlier, but I grabbed some additional domain names. This means that I will be putting some effort into getting them all up and running, but first I will need to upgrade my GoDaddy account to support the additional space. I'll need to get an unlimited plan because, eventually, this site will also go on there.

Most of the work will need to go into my parents' business site because that is simple VBScript with an Access back-end, which I'm sure Linux won't support. This site will most likely migrate to Wordpress, so I'll have to figure out how to import all of my entries; all of the entries on this site are stored in plain text, so I'll probably need to get fancy with SQL to get them all in.

This site will remain a "personal" site. The other two domain names I grabbed will be more "professional" and will likely not link back to this one.

Time Marches On

It's the end of June. Time goes by so quickly these days. Mario is now crawling and is able to stand up with the assistance of a nearby piece of furniture; about nine months ago he was stationary and didn't make much noise.

Speaking of the end of June, the Taste of Lombard starts on Thursday. I'm going to put Mario into the baby backpack and head over there with Julie for some delicious, hopefully strange food. One day he, too, will enjoy alligator on a stick.

I snatched up a couple of domain names. This one will become the "fun" site, and I will have a smaller "professional" site ... eventually. I haven't attached a hosting plan to the domains yet because I'd need to rewrite one site from scratch if I do.

Anyway ... gettin' older. Happens to all of us.
